Common questions
Can I use Grammarly?
Yes, through the Grammarly browser extension. Use Grammarly in either Pages or Continuous editing view. Open Tools → Grammarly for troubleshooting. Enable Grammarly for this site in your browser’s extension menu, then click in your manuscript. No separate Grammarly mode is needed. If suggestions do not appear, confirm the extension is enabled for this site and reload the page. Grammarly processes text under your Grammarly account and privacy settings.
Do I need an account?
No. Without signing in, your books are saved only on this device. Sign in with Google to keep them in your account, use them on other devices, and share them.
My book isn’t on my other device.
Sign in with the same Google account on both devices. Open Account → Sync now. A book made while signed out stays on that device until you choose Upload to my account.
How do I share a book?
Open the book and choose Share. Enter the person’s Google email and pick Editor, Commenter, or Viewer. bookwrit.ing does not send emails, so send them the link to this site. They must sign in with that same email.
I shared a book but the other person can’t see it.
Check the email address is the one on their Google account, and that they have signed in. Pending invitations are listed under Share as “Waiting for first sign-in.”
Two people edited the same book and I see a “conflict copy.”
If two people save changes to the same book at the same moment, bookwrit.ing keeps both versions rather than overwriting either. Your version is saved as a separate copy. Copy what you want between them. Editing one at a time avoids this.
What happens to my books when I sign out?
Signing out clears bookwrit.ing from that browser: your books, images, and settings are removed from the device. Everything saved to your account stays safe and comes back when you sign in. If some books are not in your account yet, bookwrit.ing shows them and lets you upload them first.
How do I keep my own copy of my writing?
Use File → Export for PDF, EPUB, Word (DOCX), HTML, Markdown, plain text, or a full JSON backup.
How do I delete my data?
Open Account → Delete account and cloud data. This permanently deletes your account and the books you own. To clear what is saved on this device, use Settings → Clear all data.
I lost text I was writing.
bookwrit.ing saves as you type. Check File → Version history and File → Backup recovery, which keep earlier copies on this device.
